Larger boats in this context means boats that have more than two of the following:

A battery charger that is rated at over 40 amps @ 12 volts DC

An Inverter or inverter charger

An amp hour meter

An upgraded alternator

A house battery bank that is several times larger than the start battery

Wind or solar charging
What I am getting at here is that for boats that have an electrical system that is more complex than the standard stock boat I believe it is worth paying a little more to get the most effective charging system, which in my opinion would set the batteries up in the way I have shown and include a Duo Charge.
