Purpose
This is an externally regulated alternator typically mounted on a small marine diesel engine. It is the smallest alternator of the Balmar range with a 100 amp output.
Engine Compatibility
The 3.15" dual foot mount means it can mount on most Yanmar marine diesel engines. Replaces most small case styles using a 3.15" J180 saddle style mount (e.g., Hitachi, Lucas, Mitsubishi)
Uses
This alternator will give a modest increase in output over the standard alternators which typically come with an internally regulated 55 amp regulator.
Pulley Compatibility
This has a single V pulley and so requires an engine with a single V belt. To use the full output from this alternator a 1/2" wide belt is required. Other models are available with different pulleys
Battery Compatibility
This alternator is recommended for AGM, Gel or Wet Cell batteries. It is not recommended to connect it directly to a Lithium battery bank. Lithium batteries would require a more heavy duty alternator. It would be acceptable to have it charge a start battery and then take a measured amount of output to the lithim bank using a DC DC Charger
Regulator This kit is supplied complete with an external regulator, the MC-618-H, and two temperature sensors
Backup emergency regulator
This alternator comes with an emergency back-up regulator built-in. This can be activated in the event the main regulator stops functioning. The back up regulator is a single stage one and is not suitable for everyday use.
Ground type
This is an isolated ground alternator. There is no electrical connection between the alternator and the engine. This means that the installer must provide a dedicated negative output wire that is the same size as the positive output wire.
