High output 12 volt alternator for Yanmar 6LY engines
p/n: 94LY-12-210-IG
Availability: Can ship direct from Balmar if you select a paid shipping method.
Balmars 94LY-Series large case alternators deliver the size and charging output required to support battery banks of up to 800 amp hours at 12 volts or 400 amp hours at 24 volts. Designed expressly for use on Yanmar 6LY diesel engines, these 12-volt and 24-volt alternators are engineered for use with external multi-stage voltage regulation, making it possible to tailor charging voltage to maximize safety and efficiency when replenishing a wide variety of battery types.

A 3.15 I.D. saddle style mount enables the 94LY alternator to replace the standard internally-regulated OEM alternator on Yanmars 6LY engines, and on other engines with like mounting and belt configurations. Custom-wound rotor/stator combinations optimize output across the typical diesel powerband. Isolated ground provides sure continuity to system ground. Meets U.S. Coast Guard Title 33 standards for ignition protection.

Tech Tip

To meet ABYC standards the wire to the battery must have circuit protection.  The level of circuit protection must be equal or less than the ampacity of the wire. To prevent accidental tripping the circuit protection should be a bit more than the rated output of the alternator, maybe 30% more would be appropriate

When sizing the output wire of this alternator the ampacity of the wire must at least meet the output of the alternator, see the Ampacity Tables for details.  Ideally though the wire size would be closed to the 3% Voltage drop rule, see the Voltage Drop Tables for details. A 5005 or 5191 fuse block would be appropriate.  Don't forget a cable cap for the output terminal which the ABYC requires for all exposed positive terminals.  A 4012 Cable Cap might be appropriate depending on the wire size you end up choosing.
