Balmar has combined recent technology advances to introduce a next generation battery monitor. This new monitor has combined the best features of its 1st generation Smartgauge with the advantages of a shunt-based amp-hour counting system to come up with a battery meter that combines the best features of both. In addition, they have come up with a modular system that can be scaled to accommodate multiple battery banks and multiple meters. The SG200 color display is easy to read, configurable and fits any standard 2 1/16" diameter mounting hole. Now you can determine your battery(s) condition from anywhere on board with multiple displays or simply add the optional Bluetooth® interface and Smartphone App to keep information in your pocket!

The SG2-0300 Bluetooth Gateway is not included with this unit and is sold as an optional extra. If you want to be able to install enhancements and upgrades to the firmware in the future we strongly encourage you to consider adding the Bluetooth Gateway to your order.

Q: If I want the SG200 to monitor my house batteries and engine start battery do I need two shunts?

A: If you are content to just read the voltage of your start battery then you dont need any additional equipment. The SG200 can monitor the voltage of two additional banks.

However if you want to be able to see the state of charge and state of health of the additional battery then you need an additional shunt for each additional battery bank you want to monitor.

Q: G'day, Do I have to do a 20hr capacity test to determine current battery capacity before I hook the SG200 up. My bank is US battery 4x R232Ahr 6v FLA's. (Endurant R232's) Also will you ship to New Zealand? Thanks, Roly Stanley Auckland NZ

A: You dont have to run a test, the meter will figure it out over a few cycles. And yes we do ship to New Zealand

Q: Hi, I have two banks. One with two flooded 12v system on A, B, A&B rotary and another bank with 3 AGM in series for 36v trolling. Since they are different chemistry and the notes said it won't be accurate, is this system for me? My boat is dry stored with no charging, Will/can the system predict without ever being float charged to the batteries max state? Todd

A: When you are trying to keep track of two completely different banks then you need to get an additional shunt. With two shunts and one meter you can keep track of two different banks.

Q: how long is the comm cable that comes with this package? is is available now?

Its 10 metres long. It is included with the package and we also sell the cable by itself. The only reason that you would currently need to buy the cable by itself is to install a second display.

Q: Can we use this battery monitoring device with a 12-volt battery bank for the starting battery and with a 24-volt battery bank for the house bank, all on the same boat?

A: Yes you can. Only one of the battery banks will get the full analysis, the other one will only report voltage.

A: The shunt has an internal temperature sensor but there is not one for the battery.
