I would say the minimum would be about 6" x 6" x 6" and a bit bigger would make it easier to work on

If you look on HomeDepot.com and search on "Carlon Box" you will find a whole range of suitable boxes. It you want to add cable glands to them I recommend the Blue Sea 3124, 3125 and 3126

The Purpose of the AC Source Selector Switch
Alternating Current (AC) power changes polarity 60 times per second in the US, Canada and Latin America and 50 times per second in Europe. This is the frequency of the power and is referred to as Hertz. Because of this alternating nature of AC power, two live sources of AC power, such as shore power and inverter power, or shore power and a generator, cannot be electrically connected. The AC Source Selector switch is designed to connect two sources of AC power to a common circuit while preventing both sources from being connected to the circuit simultaneously.
This switch is for 120/240 volts and so it switches three conductors, the Hot Line 1, Hot Line 2 and Neutral. The ground wire is not switched. The switch can select between two sources (eg shore and generator) and has an off position. It is designed to be panel mounted but for a discussion on surface mounting options click on the "Questions and Answers" tab above.
The same switch is also available pre-mounted on a panel with indicator lights as part number 8363 or 1478
