Q: Does this have a 4 stage battery charger?

A: Yes it does, here is what it says in the datasheet:
Four stage adaptive charger and dual bank battery charging The main output provides a powerful charge to the battery system by means of advanced ‘adaptive charge’ software. The software fine-tunes the three stage automatic process to suit the condition of the battery, and adds a fourth stage for long periods of float charging. The adaptive charge process is described in more detail on the Phoenix Charger datasheet and on our website, under Technical Information. In addition to this, the MultiPlus will charge a second battery using an independent trickle charge output intended for a main engine or generator starter battery.
It also now comes with a five year warranty.

Q: I am interested in powering a non-inductive 110 Volt AC device of 8 amps draw only when the sun is shining brightly by using 6 Panasonic 330 watt solar panels (1980 Watts total) of solar panels with Victron MPPT Battery chargers, What is the minimum Amp-Hours of AGM battery you recommend so that the inverter operates properly?

A: That's an interesting question. In your example the battery is being used as a buffer, it isn't really doing anything since the consumption of your device is less than the available solar power.

You would presumably not want your device to flicker on and off as clouds passed by or birds flew over the panels so we might reasonably expect the battery to do some work.

The installer in me says it would work great with 200 Amp hours of batteries and everything less would have to be by experiment to see what works. You may be able to get away with half that, I wouldn't reasonably expect to go less.

Q: I've read the install instructions that recommend 2/0 cable but don't find that they reference appropriate fuse size. Based on ampacity table for bundled cable in engine room I'm seeing 196 amps. So would a 200amp class t fuse be sufficient for this inverter?

A: The inverter/charger has its own internal fuse to protect itself, the external fuse is to protect the wire. So if your wire has an ampacity of 200 Amps then it should have a 200 Amp fuse to protect it.

Q: I am interested in the above inverter/charger. I can not find information on the set points for the charger and how to set them. The default set points are too low for my application. I need/want 14.8 for a high. If you have link for this information or can tell me that would be great. ? Best regards, Russell

A: The preferred way to make adjustments to the set points for this inverter charger is using the VE Config software. You can download it from the Victron Energy website for free and play around with in demo mode to see what your options are. The maximum charge voltage allowed is 16 Volts

To program the multiplus in this manner you will also have to purchase the MK3USB interface and have a PC available.

Q: First, thank you for your blog it helped me alot so far. I have installed a MultiPlus Compact 12/2000/80 in my Sprinter van going to 2 Lifeline GPL 31-T batteries (105 Ah x 2), is it necessary to have a remote panel installed on my inverter charger? Can the inverter charger operate OK with the default settings. If the need of a remote panel is necessary, which one do you recommend? I don't have solar panels now but intend to install at one point. I already have a Victron battery monitor BMV-712 installed. Thanks for your advice.

A: The first advantage of a remote panel is that is is a more convenient way to tun the inverter charger on and off, particularly if it is located in an inaccessible location.The other advantage is that you can adjust the charge current on the fly. For example if you plug in to a 15 amp outlet you might blow the circuit breaker on the power supply. With the remote panel you can dial down the amount used for charging. The most common remote panel used is the Victron Energy DMC000200010 Multi Control GX for Multi-Plus and Quattro which also happens to be the cheapest.

Q: How do I shut off the Multiplus 2000w 12v using the color remote?

A: Use the top right button to enter the device menu. This will show connected products in a list view. One of the menu items will be the MultiPlus. You can click the middle button or the right center button to “enter” the MultiPlus. There will be a setting called system state/switch. You can turn it on/off/charger only there.
