The Cyrix Battery Combiner is a microprocessor controlled heavy duty relay that automatically connects batteries in parallel when one of them has reached a pre-set voltage (indicating that the battery is being charged), and disconnects when the voltage decreases below float level (indicating that one or more batteries are being discharged). Cyrix Battery Combiners are an excellent replacement for diode isolators. The main feature is that there is virtually no voltage loss so that the output voltage of alternators or battery chargers does not need to be increased. This Intelligent Battery Combiner from Victron Energy works with 12 or 24 Volts and can handle a load of up to 120 Amps, it has over-current and over-temperature correction built in (the CT in the title refers to Controlled Temperature ) There is an available terminal to fit a manual override combine button to assist when starting is difficult.

This battery combiner is an excellent economical substitute for the Blue Sea 7610 which is temporarily unavailable due to a difficulty sourcing components.

Q: can I combine 5 - 8 d batteries ?

A: It can combine any two banks of 12 volt batteries but you need to be mindful that its Amperage rating is 120 Amps max 120 Amps should be the largest load or largest charge source in the system. You have quite a large battery bank and its likely you have some large loads or charge sources and should be looking at a more heavy duty model. Perhaps one of the Blue Sea ML series combiners which have a 500 Amp rating would be more appropriate.

Q: How is the Blue sea 7610 si-acr different than the Victron energy cyrit-ct ? Both ignition protected etc. Other features or performance?

A: There are three main differences: One is to do with how these were rated. The Blue Sea one is quite a bit larger and more robust looking. Both are rated for 120 Amps, I have the feeling that Blue Sea's rating is more conservative and Victrons is maybe a bit closer to the edge. The next way relates to how they both deal with situations where the relay is right at the point of opening or closing. The aim is to avoid repeated opening and closing. Blue Sea handles this with a time delay, VIctron handles it by looking at trends. And finally Victron has an optional remote button switch that gives you a force combine for 30 seconds. You have to provide your own switch, a momentary push button is what is required.
