Q:
Hi, how can i charge my 12 volt polamer gel batteries from 24 volt truck starter system if i use this unit. Thanks ?
Asked by:
David
- 7/7/2015
A:
The unit can function as a simple single stage charger. Here is an extract from the instruction manual about how to adjust the charge voltage:
Adjustable output voltage:
The output voltage can be set between 10V and 15V by turning the potmeter (use slotted head screwdriver nr 01 – 3.5mmx0.75mm). The default value is 13,2V. When no load is applied this can be slightly higher. When setting the output voltage always connect a small load. When set with no load the output will be lower when a load is applied. Turn counter clockwise to lower the voltage

Q:
can the Orion 24/12-70 be used in parallel to develop a 210 amp 12 vole circuit? this circuit will power a siren, roof lights and two way radios
Asked by:
- 2/19/2016
A:
Here is what it says in the datasheet:
All models with adjustable output can be paralleled to increase output current
Up to five units can be connected in parallel.
This model does have an adjustable output so that comment above applies.

Q:
Where is the potentiometer to adjust the output voltage and how do you adjust it?
Asked by:
Mick
- 8/8/2017
A:
From the instruction manual:
The potentiometer is on the same end as the connections, on the right hand side opposite the green remote plug, its in behind the grill and below and to the right of the right hand positive terminal.

Q:
What size fuse should I use at the batteries ( 24 volt ) to the converter ? My batteries are in a battery box on the front of my trailer. would like to fuse converter on the buss bar there.
Asked by:
Ja McDonald
- 10/3/2019
A:
This has a maximum continuous output of 70 amps and momentary of 85 amps in a nominal 12 volt system. Depending on how you set the output voltage the maximum Watts would be in the region of 1100 Watts (13 volts x 85 amps)
If your source battery was at exactly 24 volts 1100 Watts would be 46 Amps. Since that is the absolute max draw a 50 amp fuse would probably be appropriate.

Notes on wiring the remote on-off switch:
Here is what it says in the owners manual: 4. Optional remote on/off: replace the wire bridge on the green connector by a switch (switched current is less than 100 mA), or remove the wire bridge and connect the right-hand terminal of the green connector to the 24 V supply with a switch (this could for example be an engine run/stop switch).
