The inverter part makes 120 volts from battery power when no external AC Power Source is available. The charger part charges the battery bank when an external AC Power Source is available
Uses
The MultiPlus-II is a multifunctional inverter/charger with two AC outputs. Suitable for professional marine, yachting, vehicle, and land-based off-grid systems, Power Control allows the MultiPlus-II to prevent grid or generator overload, while Power Assist boosts AC power during peak demand. In the event of an outage, the inverter switches over in milliseconds, keeping computers and sensitive electronics running without interruption. The battery charger combines speed with efficiency through a smart adaptive algorithm that extends battery life. Ready for expansion, the MultiPlus-II supports parallel, split phase and three-phase configurations when a system needs to scale.
Battery Connection
Units are available for 12, 24, and 48 volts. When inverting these units can put a big load on the battery and so it is important to be realistic as to how much run time can be achieved. When charging a substantial amount of charge is available. This can be set up and adjusted in programming. It is highly recommended to have accurate battery monitoring installed because the inverter charger is capable of running batteries down quite quickly.
Power Assist
The MultiPlus-II will prevent overload of a limited AC source, such as a generator or shore power connection. First, battery charging will automatically be reduced when otherwise an overload would occur. The second level will boost the output of a generator or shore side supply with power taken from the battery.
Uninterrupted AC power (UPS function)
In the event of a grid failure, or when shore or generator power is disconnected, the inverter within the Multi is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected loads. This happens so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without disruption.
Remote Monitoring and Control
When coupled with a GX device (e.g.
Cerbo GX) you can monitor and control your Multi and system or systems' locally (LAN) or remotely via the internet from anywhere in the world, using the free VRM app and free VRM portal website. Access can be from a phone, tablet, laptop or PC for multiple operating systems. There is no end to the level of control, from adjusting your Multi to auto starting a backup generator and more…"
Compatibility
Works with all battery types including Lithium. The charger is fully programmable and there are presets available for battery type or you can make it totally custom if required.
Communication and programming
The charger needs to be programmed using a
Mk3 USB interface which can connect to a PC, Mac or Android Phone. When not in programming mode It can be connected to a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX using a VE Bus Cable. Our video on programming explains all the options that can be applied.
Remote Panel
Adding multiple Units
Multiple units can be set up in parallel, split phase, or three phase modes. Up to 6 sets of three units can be set up in three phase mode.
AC Outputs
The MultiPlus-II has two AC Outputs. The primary AC output is available all the time and operates from external power when available, but inverts when external power is not available. The secondary output by default only works when external power is available. This function is however programmable.
AC Input
The MultiPlus-II only has a single AC input. If two power sources are available (eg shore and generator) an external transfer switch is required.
Charge Algorithm
There is a 4 stage adaptive algorithm for battery charging.
Temperature compensation
A temperature sensor is included which mounts on the batteries and can be used to adjust the charge voltage based on temperature. This is not applicable to lithium batteries.
Are the units waterproof?
No., they are not at all waterproof.. They do have a drip shield which helps to protect them but only works when they are mounted vertically.
Are there ports for add-ons and external equipment?
The units have two VE Bus Ports which can be used to connect to the programming interface , or to the remote panel or a GX device such as a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX. They also have a number of multi-function connections that can be set up in programming for many different uses.
What circuit protection is needed?
The size of DC fuse required varies based on model. All these models have either a 50 amp or a 95 amp transfer switch and so the AC input needs to be limited to appropriate level depending on the model.
Installation
Locate unit away from battery. Never place unit directly above the battery; corrosive battery gases will damage it. Do not operate the unit in a closed-in area or restrict ventilation in any way. These units are intended to mount vertically on a wall or bulkhead. This promotes better cooling because natural convection works in tandem with the forced fan ventilation. The units can be mounted flat on their backs but this is not optimal for cooling and so extra attention should be paid to improving air flow. When mounted flat on their backs the units are more vulnerable to water drips.
Can these units be used to provide an equalization charge?
Yes, there is an equalization charge mode available which can be set up in programming.
