MPPT Smart Solar Charger with built-in Bluetooth
Purpose
For charging 12 or 24 volt batteries from solar panels. The MPPT maximizes the amount of power harvested from the panels
Compatibility
For panels with a maximum possible voltage of 75 volts. This means they must have a VOC of less than that because on occasion panels can put out more than their VOC. We recommend leaving a 10% buffer, so 65 volts max VOC.
Communication and programming
The MPPT can be monitored and programmed over Bluetooth using the free Victron Connect App. It can also be connected to a Cerbo GX using a VE Direct Cable. This enables it to be shown on the home screen of the Cerbo and permits remote access over the VRM.
Adding multiple MPPT's
If there is more than one MPPT in the system charging the same battery they can be networked together over the Bluetooth connection so that their charging is coordinated.
Power rating 75/10
The 75/10 MPPT has a maximum power output of 10 amps. This means when in a 12 volt system it can accept a 145 Watt panel, and in a 24 volt system it can accept a panel with 290 watts output. You can have a slightly bigger panel but any extra power will be wasted.
Power rating 75/15
The 75/15 MPPT has a maximum power output of 15 amps. This means that when it is in a 12 volt system it can accept a 200 watt solar panel and when in a 24 volt sytem it can accept a 400 watt panel. You can have a slightly bigger panel but any extra power will be wasted.
Limitations
The solar panel voltage must be a minimum of 5 volts above battery voltage for the MPPT to start charging. It is preferred that the voltage is higher than that because that way the MPPT has some flexibility to maximize the yield.
What circuit protection is needed?
These MPPT's are for small solar arrays and there probably isnt a need for any circuit protection between the panel and the MPPT. Circuit protection is required where the MPPT connects to the battery. We suggest a 15 amp fuse or breaker for the MPPT 75/10 and a 20 amp fuse or breaker for the MPPT 75/15
What output wires are needed?
Both of these models accept up to 10 awg wire which is what you should use.
Is the unit waterproof?
Not really. The electronics are IP43 but the terminal area is IP22.
Can it be programmed for different types of batteries?
Yes it is user programmable, there are presets for different types of batteries or you can do totally custom programming.
Is there temperature based compensation for charging voltage?
The unit has an internal sensor and will use that if no external one is connected. It can be networked to various temperature sensors over Bluetooth using VE Wireless Networking. Devices that can be used include the
Smart Battery Sense. If there is a
SmartShunt or
BMV 712 battery monitor in the system it can be fitted with a
temp sensor and networked to the MPPT to give actual battery data.
