It adjusts its input voltage to the optimal level for maximum power production. It decouples the solar array voltage from the battery voltage so that a 48 volt panel can power a 24 volt battery bank

No dongle needed. With "Smart" in the name the built in Bluetooth replaces the dongle

Q:
Do all the panels terminate into (1) MPPT controller? Or does each panel need it's own controller. I believe a MPPT controller such as the 100/50 can handle up to 700w but is there a limit on how many panels can be connected?

A:
You don't need to have one panel per controller as long as all the panels are shaded equally. You can put panels in series or parallel up the the allowed wattage. If you put panels in series then you add their voltages and you need to keep the open circuit voltage below the max rating of the charge controller.

Why on the controller does it say PV 100V Max 50 amps, and in your add it says only 20 amps...what is the difference? Also, would a 30 amp controller be better on a boat using 2/100 watt flexible solar panels?

A:
Thanks for spotting my typo, I have corrected it. The max output is 50 Amps and that equates to up to 700 Watts of panels in a 12 volt system. This is a lot bigger controller than you need if you have t x 100 Watt panels.

What size MPPT controller do I need for a system that has 3 12 volt 4D marine batteries (about 600 AH) and a solar array of 4 100 watt panels (400 watts.). What if I upgraded the panel array to be made of 4 160 watt panels (640 watts?). I currently have a 30 amp WPM charger.

In a 12 volt system the 100/50 can handle 700 watts of solar. See table below. If you have only 400 watts you can use the 100/30
