This Protection device for 48 volt alternators mounts directly to the alternator and connects to the positive and negative output terminals. A wiretie is supplied to attach it.

This device shorts out the output of the alternator. No such device can survive this 100% of the time. The Shield is rated to the automotive ISO 16750-2 Load-Dump Surge specification. All surge protection devices will eventually fail if the surge is extreme enough. If the limits of the shield are exceeded, the status LED will turn RED, and it will need to be replaced. In circumstances like a lightning strike, the Shield may become damaged, stop providing protection and not show a RED LED. This also indicates the Shield needs to be replaced.
