Q:
Can your system be utilised for a two battery system in an automobile? I have an MGB-GT (1968 -ve earth) that I want to set up with two battery's. One for normal use and the second to be used for accessories i.e. General accessories radio, and an electric cooling fan which will operate on a two minute delay after the engine has stopped. These get used in vehicles all the time, but normally in more heavy duty applications like Fire Engines and Ambulances. Its a bit overkill for an MGB-GT. Have you looked at some of the automatic charge relays like the 7610? Im not sure what exactly you want this to do but the 7610 will allow both batteries to charge when the engine is running but only discharge the auxiliary battery when the engine is stopped.

Auto Releasing ML-Series Remote Battery Switch with SPST Switching Provides 500A switching and features of current ML Remote Battery Switches, but can be controlled with SPST or SPDT switch for applications where a normally open relay is desired. This feature means that if you are looking for a 12 volt heavy duty mechanical relay to control from a BMS this would be the one to use. Note that an intermediate relay may be required since most BMS's would not support the 13 mA coil current required. Note also that there is an 8mA current draw when the switch is off.
