Victron Energy SCC115070211 Smart Solar MPPT 150/70 -TR Charge Controller with Bluetooth

Q: I am designing a solar charging system for my sailboat. I plan on using three (3) @ 210 watt PV panels. The specs on the panels state that Pmax = 17.0 Vdc with an associated max current output of 12.35 amps @ Pmax. You notes on the controllers state that it is more efficient to connect the panels in series. Under this arrangement the voltage is additive and the current is not. Therefore, if I connect the panels in series the output to the charge controller will be (3 x 17.0) = 51 Vdc at an output of 12.35 amps. I have a 12 volt AGM house battery bank of 600 amp hours. I am planning to incorporate your MPPT 150 / 70 - TR or MPPT 150 - 70 TR VE.Can into my proposed system. My understanding is that the primary difference between these 2 models is the ability to daisy chain additional controllers with the VE.Can. My questions are: 1. Is there any benefit to going with the VE.Can controller if I won't be adding additional PV panels? and 2. Is the output of the MPPT controller to the house bank independent of the input voltage?
