This latest model has all the same features as the previous ones but with a lighter weight and smaller size. New weight 22 kg Old weight 43 kg.

This battery requires you to use an external BMS, the most popular model is the Lynx Smart BMS for larger projects and the BMS CL12-100 for Sprinter Vans. This BMS can be used to control VE Bus devices such as the MultiPlus Inverter Charger Most installations of this battery will involve one or more Battery Protects to control other loads and charge sources. Most installations will also include a Battery Monitor such as the BMV 712 I have written an extensive set of Blog posts about how to use and wire up these batteries, any posts about the earlier version of the battery apply equally to this latest version.

Tech Tip

This battery can be mounted on its side or on its end but not upside down.
You need to use a torque wrench to tighten the battery terminals, if you don't you risk stripping the threads. The settings for this battery are 14 Nm.

Q: Is it ok and acceptable practice to parallel this with three 160 ah Victron smart lithium batteries that are about 2 weeks old?

A: You cant mix batteries of different capacities or different ages together. Victron go to a lot of trouble to ensure that the individual cells in the battery get balanced and then they want you to go to a lot of trouble to wire them in such a way that all the batteries get charged equally and do an equal amount of work (by making sure they are wired identically with cables that match in length) I hope that goes some way to explaining why you cant mix different sizes and ages.

A: No, sorry, these have to be mounted right side up.

Q: how low can the battery be depleted? or DOD?

A: The expected life span is 5000 cycles at 50% depth of discharge and 2500 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. In our designs we use 80% depth of discharge as our design capacity. You can run the battery completely down until the BMS shuts off the system and even right at the end the delivered voltage is perfectly acceptable. We just don't aim to do that on a daily basis.
