Q: What is the difference between the isolated and non-isolated Victron DC-DC Chargers?

This question is answered in more detail on the product page of the Non-Isolated Smart DC DC Charger. Look at the "Additional Information" tab.

The only difference between the isolated and the non-isolated is that in the non-isolated the incoming and outgoing DC negative is shared. The non-isolated has only three terminals, an incoming positive, and outgoing positive, and a common negative. The isolated has four terminals because the incoming and outgoing negatives are isolated from each other

When you use this as a battery to battery charger in an RV the two batteries already share a common negative so there is no advantage to be gained using the isolated version. Isolation if really only an advantage if you are using this in a different context, to isolate sensitive electronics from electrical noise

Q: On the Victron Orion-Tr smart 12/12 DC to DC charger isolated, I'm looking at this as a clean way to charge my Lithium batteries in my camper from my truck battery/alternator when driving is this correct?

A: It was designed for exactly the application you describe. Note that it is not the only way to do this, if you want more output power you can also take a look at the Victron range of Buck Boost DC DC Converters

Q: I am wondering if the Victron Energy ORI121236120 Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A Isolated DC-DC charger will work on my system even if I do not have a smart alternator. ( old school alternator ) Using it on a 2006 Sprinter with I believe is 250 amp bosh alternator. Mark

A: This is primarily a battery to battery charger so its uses are quite wide. You don't have to have any alternator in the system to make it work.

Q: I am seeing conflicting information on the ignition ports. Do you supply 12v switched power (+) to the H or L port to start the charger? I want the charger to start when the engine switch is "on" and stop when the engine switch is off. The charger is going from my 12v Lifepo4 house bank to my AGM starter battery.

A: If you remove the terminal jumper you can supply +12 volts to the HIGH (H) and that becomes your remote on off

A: Yes you could use either this one or the non-isolated version of the same thing. Either will work just fine. Non-isolated is cheaper.

A: This is a one way device. There is an input and an output. It doesn't work in reverse.
