Balmar MC-618-VL-01 Internal Smart Ready® Regulator Conversion Kit for Valeo 120A/12V Alternators found on recent production Yanmar Engines This Balmar conversion kit works with Valeo alternator model 128990-77250.  This kit comes complete with the MC-618-H regulator and two temperature sensors. The battery temp sensor comes with a 20 ft cable and the alternator temp sensor comes with a 4 ft cable, same length as the alternator wiring harness.

Installation is a snap and can even be done with the alternator in place if enough clearance is available.  Disconnect power to the engine before you start.  Remove the back cover from the alternator. Remove the existing internal regulator by unscrewing three screws. Replace it with the new one using the same three screws.  Remove the brush retainer and replace it with the new brush cover.   Put back the new back cover using the original two screws. Hook up the external regulator.


Tech Tip

This is an easy modification to the original alternator that permits it to have the external regulation required for advanced battery systems and charging. The modification can even be done with the alternator in place if enough room is available.  This kit comes with alternator and battery temperature sensors which we recommend for all advanced charging systems.
