Alternator temperature sensor for use with Max Charge or ARS5 regulators or with the Balmar Duo Charge.
The alternator temperature sensor is designed to prevent the alternator exceeding its rated temperature of 210 deg C When used with the Max Charge and ARS5 regulators the output of the alternator is reduced until the temperature has returned within the parameters.
The alternator temperature sensor is a semiconductor device and is designed to bolt on to one of the case mounting bolts of the alternator. The wire length provided is the same length as the standard wire harness that comes with the regulator so that it can be incorporated into this harness.
The use of an alternator temperature sensor is recommended for any system where extended high output operation is expected, an example being any especially large battery bank, particularly one of AGM batteries.
Simple two wire hookup
Bolts on to alternator case
52" wire length to match standard regulator wire harness
Especially recommended when extended high output operation is intended.
When this temperature sensor is used with an ARS5 regulator the output of the alternator is reduced by 50% when it gets too hot and the full output is restored when it cools off. With the MC614 regulator the operation is more sophisticated and the output is adjusted incrementally to be the maximum possible while keeping the alternator within its allowed temperature.
Where would i hook up the mc-ts-A alternator temp sens to a Leece Neville 8MR2401UA Alternator. Thank you and can I still use the ars-4 alternator regulator or will i have to install the conversion kit for the alternator kit 114-307 ?
Balmar alternators have a dedicated screw to attach this but on other brands you can use any available screw that is attached directly to the alternator casing, the sensor is reading the temperature of the alternator case.
You can only use other brand alternators if they have been set up for external P-type regulation. Some alternators already are set up like this but for others they will have to be modified.
If your alternator is set up for external P-type regulation then you can use this temp sensor with your ARS4 regulator
